| October Notes | ||
| It’s been a very busy month with the Jampot Rally
at Kimbolton Castle getting us off to the very best of starts. The
Scottish Section attended in force, with Steve Pennycook picking up the
furthest travelled UK member shield. We also mounted the podium at
prizegiving to pick up the Tug of War prize courtesy of young James
Pennycook, who strong-armed us into participating.

The rally was situated in the grounds of the castle which is now owned and used by a private school. The school catering facilities and the main function hall were made available for use by rally goers, however the “school dinners” were of a very high standard and bore no resemblance to the ones on offer when I went to school.
| The Saturday run went to Oundle and wended its way
through a good selection of minor roads featuring a ford over a small
river to add to the overall enjoyment.

The Sunday run was to the Shuttleworth Collection of early aircraft, all in flying condition. Unfortunately it was not a flying day that afternoon. Some of us also managed to fit in a tour of the castle, which was the last home of Katherine of Aragon and has lots of history for those who enjoy that sort of thing. All in all it was a very well organised rally at a really great location.

We had barely arrived home when it was time to pack up our kit for our next section outing, this time to Corran Ferry near Fort William. The weather was not kind to us, so we were very glad of the two excellent drying rooms in the bunkhouses. Our run on the Saturday took us over in the ferry, round to Strontian, then a slight detour to the Ariundel center, where we stopped for lunch at a craft centre and café. We were particularly glad of the log fire to dry out our wet gloves before continuing on our run.

After dinner we had an evening of musical entertainment with piping by Ian MacMillan and a sing-song led by Dave Raeburn. Needless to say, our voices were lubricated with a drink or two! Dave was riding his recently completed restoration of a 1931 500cc AJS which was started by David Haynes.
| We were joined on this weekend by Harry and Sondra from the Dutch Section. They had come for the Jampot, then travelled to Dundee to visit friends and then joined us for the weekend, all achieved with only a very minor problem on one of their bikes. |

As the weather showed no sign of abating on Sunday, we went our separate ways, some of us going home by the longer, more scenic routes. All in all it was an enjoyable weekend, despite the rain. |
